Using airline passenger booking data from Sabre, this dissertation analyzes the factors influencing passengers' decisions to fly from a larger hub airport instead of flying on a local commuter flight. Knowing how passengers' decisions are affect by these variables provide the potential for the local market retain these passenger and increase enplanements. The leakage rate is impacted by when communities are willing to invest their local resources into the airport, along with the level of economic activity in the community. Leakages also rose after September 11, 2001. This dissertation also anaylzes the impact of flight schedule reliability on enplanement levels. Using the flight reliability data for the Laramie and Sheridan, WY airports, both late departures and cancellations have an impact on enplanement levels, but late departures significantly impacts enplanements with a positive sign. Enplanement levels and economic development have been correlated typically has not been taken any further. Using per capita income and enplanement levels, causality is studied through the Granger-Sims causality model.
